As a child, Princess Elizabeth, never expected to become Queen as her father was the younger brother to Edward, the Prince of Wales, who inherited the throne from their father, King George V, who died in 1935. Indeed, Edward became King as Edward VIII but he abdicated after a few months and before any coronation because of his refusal to give up the woman he loved, Wallis Simpson, who was a divorcee and in those days unacceptable as Queen.


TopRail meeting held in person in Paris on 11 May 2022

TopRail members came to Paris on 11 May from Italy, France, Spain, UK, Japan and Switzerland to meet their TopRail colleagues in person for the first time in two years. International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is a worldwide initiative to improve awareness for level crossing safety. Since 2009, the campaign has been spearheaded by the International Union of Railways (UIC), the worldwide railway organisation, with the support of the railway community around the world.

About 50 countries usually take part in the annual ILCAD campaign.

Each year, a partner country hosts the launch event, where we have the opportunity to share good practices and projects to improve safety and reduce the accident toll.
