CER launches the Future is Rail campaign

Today the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) launches its Future is Rail campaign, showing rail as a smarter, cleaner and more connected means of transport in the EU. The kick-off of the campaign comes after the official launch of the European Year of Rail and shares the objective of encouraging more passengers and businesses to see rail as the future of transport.

To help promote the European Year of Rail, UIC has created a dedicated webpage which brings together a number of initiatives that are planned this year including events, videos and other audio-visual material, articles, press releases and different types of visual content.


HeritageRail Alliance will present its first virtual Spring Symposium on March 23-25, 2021.

Powered by the CrowdCompass app and Zoom, HeritageRail Alliance will present its first virtual Spring Symposium on March 23-25, 2021.  Each day will begin at 1:00 pm Eastern with interactive plenary sessions, and breakout sessions taking place on days two and three.  The Symposium will center on lessons learned in 2020 and how to adapt and apply new practices to recovery efforts in 2021.  The presenters are fellow operating and commercial members and supporters of HeritageRail Alliance who are eager to share their first-hand, on-the-ground experiences and observations since the initial waves of shutdowns in March 2020.

SEATON TRAMWAY REOPENS 12th APRIL 2021

Following the recent Government announcements, we are delighted to say that Seaton Tramway hopes to re-open 12th April at 10am, subject to lifting of government restrictions

Seaton Tramway is pleased to be resuming its tram service from 10am 12th April with trams running every 30 minutes until 5pm. Journey back in time to a golden age of travel and enjoy the panoramic delights of the Axe Valley.

The health and safety of Seaton Tramway’s staff and visitors remain our number one priority. The successful covid safe response which was put in place in 2020 will continue from 12th April in line with Government guidelines. Capacity on trams will be reduced. Hand Sanitising stations will be present at all entrance and exits. The Rule of 6 will be in place until at least 21st June.  Our full covid response can be found www.tram.co.uk/covidresponse


Reimagining rail – UIC facilitates debates at 10th International Railway Summit.(UIC)

Sustainable mobility and Covid-19 dominate the agenda of the online summit.

Adina Vălean, the European Union’s Commissioner for Transport, Christian Kern, Former Federal Chancellor of Austria, Gianluigi Castelli, Chairman of UIC and Italian State Railways (FSI) and François Davenne, Director General of UIC, were amongst the influential decision-makers to address the 10th International Railway Summit.

The four-day summit, supported by UIC, took place online for the first time following previous successful events in Berlin, Barcelona, Vienna, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, Prague, Frankfurt, New Delhi and Warsaw. Simon Fletcher, UIC’s Director Europe, Marc Guigon, Passenger Director, and Lucie Anderton, Head of Sustainable Development, chaired the summit’s conference programme, welcoming delegates from around the world to each of the sessions. The exclusive networking event, which featured a full conference programme, bespoke one-to-one business meetings and a variety of ways to form new friendships and partnerships, concluded on 26 February.


17th UIC Covid-19 Task Force web-conference held on 2 March 2021

The 17th meeting of the UIC Covid-19 Task Force was attended remotely on 2 March 2021 by around 50 participants from across the globe.

Marc Guigon, Chair of the Task Force, welcomed the participants and gave an overview of presentations to come, with a particular focus on digital vaccination certificates and travel passes in view of facilitating travel in the coming months.
